Offering More then the National Curriculum

Academic work for 11 to 16-year-olds follows the National Curriculum but at the same time we are able to offer much more than the legal minimum requirements.

In addition to Information Technology, Religious Studies and Sex Education, the National Curriculum consists of 10 subjects which all children study at school. ‘Core’ subjects are English, Mathematics and Science; and ‘foundation’ subjects are Design Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art, Physical Education, and a Modern Foreign Language. Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is also a feature for 11 to 16-year-olds.

Our programmes of study allow for differing abilities and aptitudes, making provision for gifted and talented pupils whilst also providing additional support where required.

All Pupils Participate in the Combined Cadet Force

The distinctive difference at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School is that in keeping with our military background and tradition, all our pupils participate at some stage in their school career in the Combined Cadet Force and, early in their school careers, Year 7 pupils enjoy Military lessons with the RSM. This gives them a degree of military knowledge and, within the framework of the school’s Christian ethos, an understanding of the concept of ‘service’ in its widest sense.
