Please note

  • All Applicants are required to complete the Boarding Suitability Application Form (BSAF) (Form A) and agree to an interview process to ensure boarding suitability. The interview will solely discuss the issues specified in Forms B or C which can be downloaded from the Academy’s website http://www.doyrms.com or obtained direct from the Academy’s Registrar.
  • Only pupils applying for boarding places for Year 7 from England and Wales need to apply through the Local Authority (see below) Please address all other enquiries to the Registrar  on 01304 245024 .

 

Boarding Suitability Test

The following outlines the process required for applying for Boarding Suitability:

  1. Parents or carers should submit the BSAF to the Academy by 31 August 2011, although late applications will also be considered.
  2. The Academy completes the boarding suitability test and conducts a suitability interview.
  3. The Academy notifies parents of the outcome of their child’s Boarding Suitability Test by 30 September 2011.
  4. For those who apply after the end of August, the Academy will endeavour to notify its decision regarding boarding suitability in advance of the  Co-ordinated Admissions closing date for applications (31 October) but this may not always be possible.
  5. In all cases, boarding suitability will be confirmed by the 31 January.

Applicants who are resident at the time of application outside the UK will be interviewed by an independent 3rd party if they are unable to attend the interview at the Academy.


 

Local Authority Common Application Form

All parents seeking a place will also need to complete a Local Authority Common Application Form (CAF), and name the Academy as one of their preferences.  Parents should submit the relevant Local Authority’s CAF to the following:

  1. If resident in England, their home Local Authority (LA).
  2. If resident outside the UK, and a member of the UK Armed Forces, the LA of their UK Armed Forces unit’s home-base, if this is in England.
  3. For other applicants resident outside the UK, including those applying under 4C, on the CAF of their normal home LA, if this is in England.
  4. If they are resident, or the UK Armed Forces unit’s home base, or their normal LA is within the UK but outside of England, the KCC CAF should be completed.

The CAF will need to be completed and returned to the relevant LA by 31 October 2011.
 

 

Academy’s Supplementary Information Form

Parents will also need to complete a Supplementary Form if they want to apply for a place under Criteria 2, 3 (members of the UK Armed Forces) or 4 (Children with a boarding need) and send this directly to the Academy by 31 October 2011:

  1. Applicants who are considered suitable for boarding will be sent a supplementary form and further information on how to complete the Common Application Form.
  2. Applicants who are considered unsuitable for boarding will be given the right of appeal.

 

 

Applicants with a Statement of Special Education Needs (AEN)

Please note applicants with a Statement of Additional Education Needs will need to contact their Local Authority AEN caseworker before making an application (as fees will need to be met by either the parent or the Local Authority).

The closing date for completed applications will be 31 October 2011.

Please:

  1. Enclose a stamped addressed envelope with your child’s form if sent in by post and a receipt will then be sent to you.
  2. If submitted in person, please ensure that you obtain a receipt.


We cannot accept responsibility for lost forms where a receipt has not been obtained from the Academy.

It is the responsibility of the applicant’s parent(s) to contact the Academy if they do not receive the following documents:

  1. Invitation to the Suitability Interview.
  2. A letter advising whether the applicant is suitable for boarding.
  3. A letter advising of an offer or rejection by the date stated on Page 6.
  4. Written confirmation of receipt of your appeal.
  5. An invitation to present their appeal in person by the time stated in the appeal confirmation letter.

 

 

Waiting Lists

The Academy will hold a waiting list until 10 December 2012 for applicants who have not been offered a place by the Academy.  Parents will need to confirm in writing if they wish their child’s name to remain on the list.

 

 

Appeals

Under the Education Act parents have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel against a decision not to offer their child a place.    The Appeal arrangements will be in line with the Code of Practice on School Admission Appeals published by the Department for Education.
