Curriculum

Broad and Balanced Curriculum

A broad and balanced curriculum is offered which leads to a high degree of success, both in public examinations and university placements. The school aims to provide the individual attention required for good academic progress through an excellent staff/pupil ratio, regular prep and personal tutors for added support. Classrooms are well resourced and pupils have access to a fine library and extensive information technology facilities.

The Pupil Achievement Centre co-ordinates the raising of academic standards in the school and produces profiles on all pupils. There is a formal prep time in the houses in order to develop classroom work and to enhance the discipline of private study.

Key Stage 3

Academic work for Year 7 to Year 9 follows the National Curriculum but at the same time we are able to offer much more than legal minimum requirements.

Key Stage 4

Our GCSE provision for Year 10 and Year 11 is comprehensive and our success rate is consistently twice that of the national average at GCSE (A*-C including Maths and English).

Sixth Form

By the time pupils enter the Sixth Form they will have been given an increasing amount of freedom and encouraged to develop self-responsibility and independence in planning their work and free time. There is a wide range of courses available, currently 16 at AS level and 17 at A2 level. The vast majority of our Sixth Form enter university. The curriculum is constantly under review and option blocks are regularly restructured to try and meet pupils' preferences.  For example, Psychology is now an A Level that will be studied this year, following student demand.

For Sixth Form pupils, there is also a Work Experience programme. The school participates very successfully in both Young Enterprise and Young Consumer schemes. A Business Dynamics Conference is organised every year whereby senior managers of local industry and business run workshops, which demonstrate the skills that will be needed in the outside world.
