British Torch of Remembrance

On Tuesday 8 November, pupils of the Duke of York’s Royal Military School provided a Guard of Honour, a bugle call and laid a wreath at the war memorial at Dover Marine railway station.

This annual event plays host to civic dignitaries and veterans organisations and this year WO1 (RSM) Dowle acted as the Parade Marshall.

Dover Marine station played an important part in transporting troops to France and receiving the returning wounded during both World War I and II.

It was also the port through which the body of the “Unknown Warrior” returned in 1920 as it made its journey towards its final resting place in Westminster Abbey. “Dukies” also formed a Guard of Honour on that occasion too.

SUO William Travers, Stick orderlies Joe Levick and Joe Crawley and Buglers Ed Jolliffe and Matthew Hurst all played important roles in making this year's Ceremony all the more special.
