94 cadets and 11 staff took part in this year’s central camp which was held at Crowborough near Royal Tunbridge Wells. We spent a day at Tree Tops, an adventure centre in Paddock Wood where all of the cadets and some staff took part in a range of activities which included, the Totem pole, Jacob’s ladder, H bars, climbing wall, climber’s ladder and low ropes.

Sunday saw our arrival at the Camp to take over our billets. Having settled in, the training began with senior cadets running stands on section attacks, platoon attacks, platoon harbours, map and compass, fire control orders and first aid.

On Monday, we spent the day at Bewle Bridge reservoir where cadets had the opportunity to canoe, build rafts and try kat-kayaking on the water, as well as command tasks, orienteering and archery on dry land.

Tuesday’s activities were based inside the Camp. They consisted of 25 metre outdoor range, obstacle course, indoor range, paintballing, laser quest.

The remaining three days were spent in the field with cadets participating in a range of Fieldcraft activities. Water crossing, fire and movement lane, platoon attacks, sniper stalks, command tasks, 1st aid scenarios, intelligence lead map and compass exercises and observation stands gave the cadets some outstanding opportunities to expand their range of skills and experience.

Looking back over the week, many cadets will take with them some great memories of good weather and being with their friends. Many also faced new challenges and overcame their fears of water or height and will have left the camp a stronger person for the experience.

My thanks go to all of the staff who accompanied the cadets giving up a week of their holidays and to those NCOs who successfully lead the cadets.
