Sandhurst Sword of Honour for Former Dukie

Former Duke of York’s Royal Military School pupil, Senior Under Officer Calvin Smith, has been awarded the prestigious “Sword of Honour” at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and commanded the Sovereign’s Parade on Friday 12th August 2011.
 
The Sword of Honour is awarded to the Officer Cadet considered by the Commandant, Major General Patrick Marriott CBE, to be the best on the gruelling year long course.
 
23 year old Calvin, one of three brothers who have attended the School was a keen member of the Combined Cadet Force, achieving the prestigious ranks of ranks of Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major in his Lower VIth and Senior Under Officer in his UVIth.
 
Having completed his education at the School, Calvin went on to gain a BSc in Sports Science from Swansea University; he was also a member of the Wales Universities Office Training Corps and gained a TA Commission whilst a university student.
 
Upon commissioning, Second Lieutenant Smith will join the elite Parachute Regiment.
 
The Duke of York's Royal Military School, Dover, is a 100% co-educational boarding school which achieved a "good with outstanding features" judgment during a recent OFSTED inspection and achieved 97.5% pass rate (A-C including Maths and English) at GCSE in 2010; it became an Academy in September 2010 and now provides continuity of education for the children of both serving and non-serving families.
