Trent Reedy author visit
On Thursday, 22nd September, US author Trent Reedy celebrated the UK publication of his book “Words in the Dust” by spending the day with us at DOYRMS. All day he was inundated by eager pupils clamouring to get their hands on a signed copy of this powerful account of a girl in modern Afghanistan, whose life was transformed by a simple operation. We sold over 200 copies during a manic lunchtime signing session, as these pictures show – no one has ever seen the library so busy! After addressing the whole school in Chapel, Trent talked to pupils from years 9-13 about subjects as varied as the best naan breads in the world, how to blow up land mines, the problems of keeping cool in the desert, and trying to fly with a black refuse sack. We hope to keep in touch with him by skype so we can let him know how much we thought of his book – and we look forward to his next one! p>
Many thanks to Alastair Ulke for taking the photos and generally running around supervising things.
