Talented Young Musicians Compete for Coveted Annual Awards

Talented young musicians entertained an audience of students, staff, parents and governors at the School while competing for the annual Musician of the Year coveted awards.

Accolades went to: Senior Instrumentalist winner Annabelle on clarinet playing In Rhythm, Templeton; joint runners up Anton, piano – Fantasia in D Minor, Mozart, and Toby, guitar – Eruption, Eddie Van Halen; Senior Vocalist winner Glory singing It’s a Man’s Man’s World, James Brown; runner up Takara with When We Were Young, Adele. Junior category winner Georgina singing Hallelujah, Leonard Cohen.

The competition featured a range of musical styles and included performances on saxophone, piano, clarinet, flute, guitar, and voice. The Year 8 Scholars Band entertained the audience with Believe & Feel it Still while judges deliberated.

Prizes were donated by sponsors The Friends of DOYRMS; they have also provided a new honours board for the Music Department on which the two senior winning names will be added. Visiting judge was Lucy Simes who previously taught at the School for eight years; she is now Head of Music at Dover Boys Grammar School. Lucy is a pianist and flautist who studied music at Canterbury Christ Church University.
