The Duke of York's Royal Military School

A co-educational boarding school for students aged 11-18

Chapel - Faiths and Beliefs

The School celebrates and promotes the diversity of cultures, backgrounds and faiths from which we come. The traditions of the Armed Forces shape our faith-based activities and worship is shaped and influenced by a Christian ethos that embraces and involves all faiths - and encourages those with no faith to explore life and contemporary issues from another perspective.

Chapel - Faiths and Beliefs

The School Chapel celebrates and promotes the diversity of cultures, backgrounds and faiths from which we come. In Chapel, we explore the Schools core values of Loyalty; Integrity; Courage; Discipline; Respect; and Selfless commitment. We also promote British Values of democracy; the rule of law; individual liberty; and mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

Our faith-based activities and worship is shaped and influenced by a Christian ethos that embraces and involves all faiths - and encourages those with no faith to explore life and contemporary issues from another perspective. Our calendar of worship also embraces our unique military traditions and heritage.

Weekly Worship

A whole School assembly takes place on Monday and is opened with a prayer. Congregational singing takes place on Wednesday morning to practice the hymns for the week ahead. The Friday morning services are usually led by a House group or member of staff. On Sunday mornings, we gather for a Chaplain led service.

Dukies have a long history of exceptional hymn-singing and this is reflected in the level of engagement in our services.

Our Chapel

Our Chapel was built between 1905-1909 and is part of the Edwardian model village that forms the current School site. However, it also retains much of the School’s history from our years in Chelsea (1803-1909). It is now dedicated as ‘The Royal Military Chapel of Saint Michael and Saint George’. Generations of Dukies (and Hibernians) are commemorated for their war service and sacrifice. Our former Colours are also laid up in the Chapel.

Importantly, it is not just a ‘venue’ for services but is open at all reasonable times for students, staff and visitors to pray, reflect, visit and be still.
