How to Apply

We warmly welcome applications for Years 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 (Sixth Form). Parents considering The Duke of York’s Royal Military School for their child can expect a thorough and supportive admissions process.

We will accept applications at any point in the academic year – there is no formal deadline to submit an application. However, late applications are subject to available places.

The Admissions Process

1 - Register your Interest

If you believe The Duke of York’s Royal Military School is the right fit for your child, please register your interest by kindly filling out the enquiry form. Following this, a member of the Admissions team will be in contact with you.

2 - Visit Us

Families are encouraged to visit the school, meeting key members of staff and students at our various Open Mornings throughout the year. During your visit, you will have the opportunity tour our outstanding facilities, sample lunch from our catering team, and experience our Dukie community first-hand.

3 - Application

You will be sent an application form to complete. Once submitted, the school begins the boarding suitability process by obtaining a boarding suitability reference from your child’s current / previous school.

4 - Interview

Subject to a satisfactory reference, the school will invite you and your child for a boarding suitability interview, which can be conducted virtually or in person.

5 - Offer

Providing the interview is successful, we will extend an offer of a place to you, accompanied by our Parent Contract and Terms and Conditions. Your place will be secured upon receipt of the signed Acceptance Form, a copy of your child’s birth certificate, parental photographic identification, and payment of a deposit.

Other Information

If your child requires any form of learning support, kindly provide this information upon application, and submit a copy of the most recent educational psychologist’s report. Subsequently, a meeting will be scheduled with our SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to evaluate the required level of support and determine our capacity to provide it.

For information or assistance with this admissions process, please contact the Admissions Team via admissions@doyrms.com or 01304 245073.

Local Authority Information

The Duke of York’s Royal Military School is a state-funded boarding school, and our admissions process runs parallel to the Kent County Council process. When applying to our school, you must inform the local authority to the applicants home address. As part of the application process, our admissions team may request that you complete an In-Year Admissions Form. If a place is not offered following our admissions process, you have the right to appeal through Kent County Council.

For Year 7 applicants who are due to start secondary school in September 2025, you can appeal if you are refused a place at one of your preferred schools on National Offer Day (Monday 3rd March 2025). You needed to submit your appeal before Monday, 31st March 2025 for it to be considered by Wednesday, 18th June 2025. Any appeals received after this time will be heard within 40 school days from the deadline, or where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.

For any applications outside of the Year 7 National Offer Day cycle (known as late applications), appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.

Eligibility Advice

As a state-funded boarding school, parents are only responsible for boarding fees.

Students admitted to the school must meet the entry requirements established by the UK Government. Foreign nationals residing in the UK typically have the privilege to enrol in state-funded schools in England. However, foreign national children residing outside the UK must obtain appropriate settlement or immigration status to attend a state-funded school.

Parents of foreign national children are accountable for verifying their eligibility under UK entry regulations before applying for admission. State-funded schools and local authorities are not obligated to request proof of eligibility.
