The CCF Army Cadets engage in activities such as drill, weapons training, fieldcraft, and infantry tactic. Students develop skills in leadership, communication, and teamwork through a fun, safe, and unique experience with no obligation to join the regular Armed Forces after school.
Combined Cadet Force
The School boasts one of the largest Combined Cadet Forces (CCF) in the country, providing over 380 students annually the opportunity to explore the three services. Through engaging military-themed and adventurous activities, cadets embark on journeys that challenge and exhilarate, fostering teamwork and leadership skills in environments beyond the typical classroom or home setting.
Our CCF offers cadets the chance to cultivate qualities such as self-reliance, resourcefulness, endurance, and perseverance. With sections from the Royal Navy, Army, and the Royal Air Force, our CCF upholds the values and standards of the British Armed Forces, encouraging cadets to lead by example with determination and drive. This programme provides a platform for young individuals to exercise responsibility and leadership in a structured and demanding setting.
Army
Royal Air Force
The RAF Section provides opportunities to attend a host of activities including: aviation and aerospace, STEM, virtual reality flying, as well as flying actual planes and gliders. RAF Cadets engage in flight training, junior leadership, and weapons training.
Royal Navy
Afloat training, which includes RYA Certified courses in dinghy, powerboat, yacht and motor cruising, is central to the Royal Navy syllabus. Weekly training sessions take place, with Cadets focusing on sailing, watercraft, and seamanship.
Led by a dedicated team of staff, primarily comprised of teachers and former military personnel, our CCF benefits from exceptional facilities on-site including a 25-meter full bore shooting range, swimming pool, fitness trim trail, climbing wall, and training area. This self-contained and secure environment allows us to conduct military training safely, ensuring a unique and comprehensive experience.
In addition to CCF activities, the School offers a distinct adventure training package at Oakhampton Training Camp on Dartmoor and the Cadet year culminates in an annual CCF camp. From mountain biking and hill walking to gorge walking and sailing, these expeditions offer a wide array of experiences, supported by the School’s investment in military ethos and provision of necessary equipment.
