Highly Commended Recognition at IRIS Awards 2026
The Duke of York’s Royal Military School (DOYRMS) has been highly commended at the prestigious Institute for Research in Schools (IRIS) Awards 2026, receiving recognition in the IRIS Research Community and Culture Award category.
With more than 100 schools and colleges considered in the category, and just one winner and two highly commended awards, the recognition is a significant achievement for the school.
DOYRMS was recognised for the significant growth of student research, the expanding range of student-led projects and the successful development of its research club. The judges highlighted how firmly the club has become embedded in school life and how it has continued to thrive, describing it as a “brilliant example of student-led research in action”.
The recognition reflects DOYRMS’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to explore their own questions, engage with authentic research and develop skills that extend beyond the traditional classroom environment.
Quote from Dr Jo Foster, Director, Institute for Research in Schools: “At IRIS, we believe young people should not just learn about science and its role in society, but help shape it. At a time when the curriculum review is asking how education can become more relevant, inclusive and responsive to the future, we believe research and innovation should be part of every young person’s education, so they can see themselves as the problem solvers our future depends on. Congratulations to all our IRIS award winners this year.”
