Musician of the Year 2021

Talented young musicians competing for the annual Musician of the Year coveted awards entertained an audience of students and staff.

Displaying a wide range of instrumental and vocal skills, students also competed in Senior, Elementary, Intermediate and Junior categories in a closely-fought contest recently staged at our Nye Hall Performing Arts Centre.

 

Anton (piano), who played Chopin’s Fantasie-Impromptu was named Senior Musician of the Year Classical category. Runner-up was James playing saxophone to Ronald Binge’s Romance from Concerto. Winning the Senior Musician of the Year Contemporary category was Tisean who sang Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On. Runner-up was Toby (guitar), who played Electric Gypsy by Andy Timmons.

 

Other Musician of the Year awards given were: Elementary winner Parisha (clarinet), runner-up Iona (trumpet). Intermediate vocal winner Georgina, runner-up Cherish. Intermediate instrumental winner Harriet (drum kit), runner-up Imogen (flute).

 

Visiting judge was Steph Godwin of Kent Music who is also Director of Music for the RAF Air Cadet National Concert Band and Director of Music Training for all RAF Air Cadets. In addition, she is a woodwind teacher and performs in many ensembles across south east England. Assisting was Year 12 student Ethel (Arts Captain).

 

Principal Alex Foreman said: “Music is at the heart of our School and is taught and played to an extremely high standard, so well done to all the winners and everyone who took part.”
