How to Apply to the School

We are always open and welcome applications into our school for full and weekly boarding places at Year 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 (Sixth Form).

Admission is possible for students who are nationals of the UK and are eligible to hold a full British or Irish passport, or those who have the right of residency in the UK.

Stage one: Register Your Interest

We ask all who wish to apply to The Duke of York’s Royal Military School to complete our Enquiry Form. Once you have completed this, our Registrar will be in contact as soon as possible to progress your application onto the next stage.

Stage two: Application and Parental Boarding Suitability Forms

After completing our Enquiry Form, you will be sent our Application and Parental Boarding Suitability Forms. These are available from our Registrar, admissions@doyrms.com or 01304 245073.

Parents or Guardians should return these forms to the School.

  • Please request confirmation of receipt if returning the forms via email.
  • Or if you are posting the forms, please send these as recorded and signed for.

We cannot accept responsibility for lost forms where a receipt has not been obtained from the School.

Stage three: Boarding Suitability Process

Once we have received the Application and Parental Boarding Suitability Forms, the School starts the Boarding Suitability Process by obtaining a Boarding Suitability Reference from the applicant's current / previous school.

Subject to a satisfactory reference, the school will invite the applicant and their parents to visit the School for a tour and a Boarding Suitability Interview.

Please note that we will consider late applications for years 7, 8 and 9, 10 and 12 will be considered subject to available places.

Appeals

Under the Education Act parents have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel against a decision not to offer their child a place. The Appeal arrangements will be in line with the Code of Practice on School Admission Appeals published by the Department for Education.
