The Duke of York's Royal Military School

A co-educational boarding school for students aged 11-18

Drama

The school has a rich tradition in the Performing Arts and students have the opportunity to engage in a range of performances from serious drama to musical theatre. Each year we stage the school musical production; past productions have included West Side Story, Cabaret, The Phantom of the Opera, Guys and Dolls and Hairspray.

The Grand Day production takes place at the end of the school year. Students from all year groups present a range of performances in music, dance and drama in a themed evening of entertainment. Throughout the year the Performing Arts departments present showcases, short plays and examination performances by students studying Level 2 and Level 3 Drama and Dance.

The Drama Department offers free LAMDA acting tuition to all students as part of our extensive extracurricular programme. Students also have the opportunity to work towards an Arts Award in Drama and Dance.

A number of Dukies have gone on to a career in the Performing Arts after leaving DOYRMS. Anthony Thatcher is a Senior Choreographer for Trinity Laban and returns to the school to give dance workshops. Other Dukie professionals include John Bowler (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Ramon Tikaram (TV and film) and Josh Flynn who is a new member of the Royal Marines Military Band.
