The Duke of York's Royal Military School

A co-educational boarding school for students aged 11-18

Admissions

The Duke of York's Royal Military School is the country’s only state full boarding school; we are based on an independent school model, providing high quality education, unrivalled extracurricular activities and outstanding facilities. Due to being a state boarding school, we are a very affordable option for those looking for a comprehensive boarding experience.

Many independent schools can charge on average upwards of £10,000 per term; for the academic year 2024-2025 we charge just £7,110 per term (£21,330) as parents only pay boarding fees while your child's education is paid for by the state. If you are serving and qualify for Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) you will only pay £569 per term (£1,707 per annum).

Children from all backgrounds

We have children studying with us from many backgrounds; 50% of our students have parents in the armed forces and benefit from the continuity of education, some have parents who work long hours and would prefer for their child to be studying in a comprehensive learning environment, while others live in Kent, like the ethos of our school and want their child to experience a well-rounded quality education. But all students benefit from the excellent pastoral care and high academic standards that our school provides.

We encourage parents to visit us, to be shown around the school and the boarding houses, and we always let one of our students do the tour, so that you and your child can ask any questions that you might have. Our students often say how much they like their 'Dukie' community, and you will soon understand what they mean when you visit us.

References from previous schools are mandatory, and if full disclosure has not been made by parents or schools regarding bad behaviour but later transpires, we reserve the right to withdraw our boarding suitability assessment which is essential to gain a place at DOYRMS.
