The Duke of York's Royal Military School is one of the best performing non-selective secondary schools in the country.
DOYRMS wins two SSAT Educational Outcomes awards. This success is down to the superb learning and teaching, outstanding support and inspirational leadership of students, staff, parents and governors.
Official progress figures place the Duke of York’s Royal Military School in the top 5% of schools nationally and, with an adjustment for students unable to sit Key Stage 2 SATs, this rises to the top 2%.
Principal Alex Foreman said: “These figures released by the Department for Education show our impressive rise into the highest performing schools nationally. This is a credit to our teaching staff and the new systems introduced in the last few years. We have invested in our teachers which has led to more challenging and engaging lessons with students encouraged to reach their own individual potential.”
The Duke of York’s Royal Military School opened in 1803 and was named after its founder His Royal Highness Frederick Duke of York. It gained Academy status in 2010 with entry available to all and, because the high quality education is funded by the government, parents only pay for boarding, currently £14,445 a year.
Set within 150 acres of countryside and with facilities rivalling those of the Independent sector, it is still popular with armed forces families (55%) and those who want their child to enjoy academic achievement and an active lifestyle with sport, music, drama and more than 70 clubs. The school has one of the largest Combined Cadet Forces and is a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award centre. HRH Prince Edward The Duke of Kent is the school’s patron.
The last Ofsted report rated the school’s leaders and managers as ‘outstanding’ and the school as ‘good’ overall. Students develop a high level of maturity, resilience and social confidence; their motto is ‘looking forward with confidence and looking back with pride’.
